Industrial design registration protects the appearance of products or designs. This includes the shape, pattern, color and decorative elements of the product. Industrial design registration is used to protect the creativity of the designer and to prevent designs from being copied.
Definition:
It is the appearance of a product, in whole or in part, resulting from its features such as line, shape, color, texture, material or surface decoration.
Aim:
Preservation of aesthetic properties and prevention of imitation.

Monopoly Right:
It gives the design owner the right to use the design for a certain period of time.

Provides competitive advantage and supports branding.
Legal Protection:
Provides the right to initiate legal action against unauthorized use.
Registration Process
Application:
An application is made to the relevant registration office by the design owner or his/her representative.
Examination:
The application is checked for compliance with the formal conditions and whether the design is innovative and distinctive.
Publication and Objection:
If the application is deemed appropriate, it will be published in the registration bulletin. Third parties may object.
Registration:
If no objection is received or the objection is rejected, the design is registered and protection begins.
Protection Period
The total protection period for industrial design registrations is 25 years and must be renewed every 5 years.
Registration Types
National Registry:
Each country has its own industrial design office. You can obtain registration by applying at the national level in the country where you want to protect your product design.
European Union Design Registration:
It is a design registration valid within the European Union. With this registration, you can protect your design in 27 EU member countries. For the application, you need to apply to the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).
Madrid Protocol:
If you want to register your design in more than one country, you can apply for international registration through the Madrid Protocol. This protocol offers the possibility to register in more than one country with one application.
Hybrid Registration:
Some countries allow you to use both national and international registration systems together. This way you can ensure broader protection.
